Mary Arthur
Dr. Mary Arthur was the Forest Ecologist in the UK Department of Forestry and Natural Resources for 30 years. In that role, she taught Forest Ecology and a range of courses in ecosystem ecology and natural resources for undergraduates and graduate students. Her areas of research expertise include nutrient cycling in forest ecosystems, fire ecology of upland oak forests, and ecosystem impacts of non-native plant species. She led the Natural Resources and Environmental Science undergraduate program for 10 years, co-founded the Urban Forest Initiative, and co-directed the Greenhouse Living-Learning Community. As Professor Emeritus, Mary continues to engage in related activities. Mary’s current work includes serving as the co-lead of the Lexington Tree Week Planning team; the Climate Conversations group, which engages people of all sorts to participate in conversations about climate using a card deck; talking to people about the role of forests in global carbon cycling.
