Suraj Upadhaya
Suraj Upadhaya is an Assistant Professor of Sustainable Systems at the School of Agriculture, Communities, and the Environment at Kentucky State University. His research and teaching focus on socio-ecological sustainable systems and the human dimensions of natural resource management. Dr. Upadhaya’s academic and professional objectives center on exploring the dynamic relationship between natural resources and people, ensuring the sustainability of natural resources in both developed and developing countries, and directing research efforts to benefit underprivileged populations. He recognizes that the emerging challenges associated with environmental change occur across multiple scales, transcend disciplinary boundaries, and require interdisciplinary approaches to enhance the understanding of social-ecological dimensions. His expertise includes ecosystem services, climate change adaptation, natural resource management and policy, land-use change modeling, water resource conservation and management, and social-ecological systems (SES). With a strong background in human dimensions and sustainability of natural resources, his academic research integrates theories from both social and natural sciences. By combining intensive fieldwork with complex modeling approaches, he produces comprehensive research on social-ecological sustainability.
