The SuRE Biennial ’24 conference is designed for faculty, students, and research administrative staff who meet specific R16 program requirements. Those eligible to attend include faculty named on an active R16 award, students working in R16-funded labs, or research administrative staff from an R16-eligible campus. If you’re unsure of your institution’s R16 eligibility, please get in touch with one of our Regional Coordinators, who can assist with your questions.

2027 Biennial Conference
The SuRE Resource Center, in cooperation with the National Institute of General Medical Sciences (NIGMS), provides a scientific conference for SuRE R16 participants. Our most recent conference was held July 2024 on the NIH Campus in Bethesda, MD. This event was an opportunity to share science with like-minded colleagues and to network with fellow R16 faculty, students, and research administrative staff.
NIGMS grants management specialists, program officials, and scientific review officers were present to offer sessions and answer attendee questions. The agenda included networking opportunities, keynote speakers, faculty oral and poster presentations, sessions for research administrators, and career development and poster sessions for students.
Our next conference will be scheduled in 2027. Be sure to sign up for our list if you'd like to receive notifications.

Who Can Attend
Registration
Conference registration closed Monday, June 3rd. It required a $100 fee for faculty and research administrative staff. There was no registration fee for students, and we highly encouraged faculty with R16 awards to have their lab students attend. All conference attendees are responsible for their airfare, lodging, and incidentals. Faculty are encouraged to use their R16 award's travel budget to cover costs for themselves and their lab students to attend the SuRE Biennial ’24 conference. Learn more about registering here.
Abstracts
The May 1st deadline has passed and we are no longer accepting faculty and student abstracts. Those students who submitted an abstract had the option to request an oral presentation. If selected for an oral presentation, they will be provided lodging during the conference for up to three nights at the Hilton Garden Inn Bethesda Downtown.
