SuRE R16 grants through the National Institutes of Health (NIH) support research capacity building at SuRE-eligible institutions to increase funding success and enrich the campus research environment. Educating an underserved student population while obtaining limited NIH research funding qualifies an institution to apply for two investigator-initiated funding opportunities—SuRE and SuRE-First

The NIH SuRE program provides research support to faculty investigators and helps qualifying institutions build research capacity to advance scientific discoveries and enrich the academic experience. These experiences motivate students from diverse backgrounds to pursue biomedical careers, adding their perspectives to our national scientific workforce.

May 28 NOFO Cancellation

For those of you who have been actively preparing an application, we encourage you to continue working with your faculty mentors and monitoring Grants.gov for updates and potential new NOFOs, including those for R16 grants. You may also consider using the time to prepare manuscripts for publications — research productivity, as judged by publications, always strengthens grant applications.

R16 NOFO Notice — May 28 Application Cancelled

The NIGMS has announced that the NOFOs for the R16 SuRE and SuRE-First grant applications will expire on May 24.

Because of this, applications for the May 28 due date will not be accepted. Details have been published in the Notice link below. We are waiting for additional information.
