The Director of RAFA and Research Fiscal Officer is responsible directly to the Vice President for Research (VPR) for the management of the entire Research budget.   The RFO provides fiscal management for all units reporting to the VPR, including oversight of budget management for Research Service Centers and the University of Kentucky Research Foundation (UKRF) Budget (Business area 0201).  Responsibilities include overseeing the budget process, preparing, processing, and reconciling all budgets within the Research Area.  This position is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the RAFA staff.

The RFO manages the day-to-day operations of the RAFA Office, including problem solving unanticipated issues and is responsible for training all Research fiscal officers with regard to new University business processes.  The RFO coordinates negotiations for space acquisitions and renovations for Research Units and oversees the capital equipment and space inventory process for all Research units.
