Two University of Kentucky faculty members are recipients of The Graduate School’s two distinguished annual awards for exemplary research and outstanding contributions to graduate student mentoring and education.

The University of Kentucky Board of Trustees approved 14 University Research Professorships for the 2022-23 academic year. Established by the Board of Trustees in 1976, the professorships program recognizes excellence across the full spectrum of research, scholarship and creative endeavors at UK.

The Research Scholars Program (RSP) aimed at ensuring diversity and inclusion in research by promoting faculty success welcomed its second cohort of six faculty from four UK colleges. 

The Professor and chair of the Department of Geography is serving as the 2021-22 College of Arts and Sciences’ Distinguished Professor and will deliver the annual Distinguished Professor Lecture on Thursday, April 21.

Elaf Ghoneim, a neuroscience major in the College of Arts and Sciences and the Lewis Honors College, and Parker Sornberger, a mathematics and chemistry major in the College of Arts and Sciences — will each begin their independent, laboratory research this summer.

The scholarship is the preeminent undergraduate award of its kind in the fields of natural sciences, engineering and mathematics. Chauhan is among 417 students nationwide selected to receive the honor from a pool of over 5,000 students.

The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department’s Board of Health has selected University of Kentucky Professor Sharon Walsh, Ph.D., as a 2022 Dr. Rice C. Leach Public Health Hero.

UK virologist Becky Dutch has been named winner of the 2022 SEC Faculty Achievement Award for the University of Kentucky.

Each fellow will work with a Behavioral Science faculty mentor on a research or community-engaged project that addresses the health of Black Americans.
