Two programs fostered by the University of Kentucky Office for Technology Commercialization (OTC) have been awarded by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and the National Science and Technology Council for creating “a more inclusive research and development innovation ecosystem for the future.”

Awards in each category are: First Place: $350; Second Place: $200; and Honorable Mention, if applicable. Entries are judged on originality, clarity of expression, scholarly or artistic contribution, and the validity, scope and depth of the project or investigation.

Cultivating students’ presentation and research communication skills, competitors were challenged to present their research in five minutes, using only one static slide, in front of a panel of three judges and a virtual audience.

“We are proud of Dr. Zeadally on this exceptional achievement,” said Dean Jennifer Greer of the College of Communication and Information. “He is highly prolific, and this honor shows that he is among the elite researchers in his field making an impact worldwide.”

“I’m looking forward to enhancing screening and management of substance use disorders in our primary care practice at the Polk-Dalton Clinic. This will increase access to treatment for many patients, and we will also be able to improve education for our medical students and residents who rotate through the clinic.”

A Chellgren Fellow, she been very active in undergraduate research at UK working with the school’s groundbreaking EduceLab: A Digital Restoration Initiative headed up by UK Alumni Professor Brent Seales, chair of the Department of Computer Science.

As one of the board’s 16 members, Hargons, an assistant professor of counseling psychology at UK's College of Education, will oversee the APA’s work in representing the more than 121,000 researchers, educators, clinicians, consultants and students who comprise its membership.

Dr. Okoli received esteemed honor for his outstanding research contributions to developing and evaluating tobacco treatment programs for marginalized populations, particularly individuals living with mental illnesses and substance abuse disorders.

Election as an AAAS Fellow is an honor bestowed upon AAAS members by their peers. Van Eldik is one of only six women from UK that have been awarded this honor and she is the first since 1966.

Himanshu Thapliyal, associate professor and Endowed Robley D. Evans Faculty Fellow in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, has been ranked in the top 50 among scientists throughout the world in the field of Computer Hardware & Architecture.
