The Kentucky Geological Survey (KGS) is hosting its annual open house in celebration of Earth Science Week on Oct. 11 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

This year’s open house will include an explosive, outdoor volcano demonstration, meteorites and a variety of fossils from Kentucky and around the world on display. Visitors will also learn about the harmful effects of radon from experts in the University of Kentucky College of Nursing. Displays will also feature landslides, earthquakes, useful Kentucky rocks and minerals, high-power scanning electron microscopes, and dinosaurs. 

This event is free and open to the public. K-12 students, parents, teachers and those interested in geoscience are encouraged to attend.  

All activities will take place in and around the Mining and Mineral Resources Building (MMRB) on the University of Kentucky campus, 310 Columbia Ave. Parking for the open house is free. Learn more about the event here.
