The National Institutes of Health (NIH) will require the use of Science Experts Network Curriculum Vitae (SciENcv) to complete Common Forms (i.e., Biographical Sketch, Current and Pending (Other) Support) and the NIH Biographical Sketch Supplement to produce digitally certified PDF(s) for use in application submission for due dates on or after May 25, 2025. While the new Commons Forms are not yet available and are not to be used for submissions prior to the effective date of May 25, 2025, investigators planning NIH submissions can begin to prepare:
What you can do now to prepare
- Familiarize yourself with Science Experts Network Curriculum Vitae (SciENcv).
- SciENcv is a researcher profile system for all individuals who apply for, receive, or are associated with research investments from federal agencies.
- You will be required to use SciENcv to complete Common Forms (i.e., Biographical Sketch, Current and Pending (Other) Support) and the NIH Biographical Sketch Supplement to produce digitally certified PDF(s) for use in application submission.
- Get an ORCID ID.
- ORCID is a free, unique, persistent identifier (PID) for individuals to use as they engage in research, scholarship, and innovation activities.
- All senior/key personnel listed on an application for a due date on or after May 25, 2025, must have an ORCID ID and the ID must be linked to their eRA Commons Personal Profile.
- You will be required to enter your ORCID ID in the Persistent Identifier (PI) section of the Common Forms.
At this time, SciENcv is available to create the current version of the NIH biosketch for due dates on or before May 24, 2025. NIH eRA Commons, NSF, and ORCID iD account holders who have linked their accounts to NCBI can populate their SciENcv biosketches with the information stored in their eRA, NSF, or ORCID iD accounts. PDO will continue to monitor for issuance of the Commons Forms and will update the UK research community when the forms become available. For questions, contact PDO@uky.edu.
