Monthly Webinar Training

This convenient and repeatable training is for faculty, trainees, and research administrative staff at qualified institutions who want to assess their understanding of the NIH grant writing process. It is helpful for those requiring a cursory review and anyone needing additional, more in-depth training. Topics will change monthly, and news updates and timely content will be provided as needed.

We encourage you to share information about our webinars with your colleagues. As a registrant, you will receive email reminders and a link to the video recording. Recordings are posted on our YouTube channel and website video archive. While we do not offer continuing education credits for attending, our Center remains a free source for training, consulting, and information related to the NIH SuRE R16 program.

While a well-developed, well-written research application is essential to be competitive for funding, it is also important that your research is aligned with the priorities of those who are reviewing your application and making funding decisions.  This webinar will describe tools and strategies that can be used to maximize the likelihood that your grant will be considered by the reviewers and institute(s) that are best suited for your proposed research.  There will be ample time for Q&A at the end of the presentation. 

The learning objectives of this session are to:

1.   Be familiar with the structure of NIH Institutes/Centers that fund extramural research and general grant application issues.

2.  Use NIH databases (RePORTER, Matchmaker, ART) and Scientific Review Group (SRG) websites to identify funded projects that are most related to your research.

3.  Communicate effectively with NIH Program Officials prior to the submission of your grant application.

4.  Use the PHS Assignment Request form to your advantage.
