Science Communication

UK Center for Appalachian Research in Environmental Sciences (UK-CARES) is excited to announce the following free virtual science communication workshops in 2026. These workshops will be offered annually.

AUGUST WORKSHOP

Engage and explore solutions to the following questions:

• What does extreme weather look like in Kentucky?
• How does extreme weather influence human health?
• What can we do about extreme weather?
• How can we support students following extreme weather events?
• What opportunities exist for incorporating extreme weather and health content into classroom instruction?

All Teachers (K-12) are Welcome!

The workshop is hosted by the University of Kentucky Center for Appalachian Research in Environmental Sciences (UK-CARES) and is designed by educators for educators. The workshop content aligns with the Next Generation Science Standards.  Register soon, space is limited.  Attendees will receive confirmation of two hours of professional development upon completion of an online evaluation.

CEC Science Communication Fact Sheet Workshop, held February 2026

The CEC Science Communication Workshop using fact sheets to translate research for public/lay audiences was led by Dr. Bev Delidow at Marshall University. Participants learned how to create accessible, memorable fact sheets for their intended audience, with 100% of evaluation respondents reporting they plan to use what they learned in the workshop.
