The Office of the Vice President for Research provides programs and services to support UK faculty, staff and students in grant development and submission, compliance and regulatory affairs, development of intellectual property and in highlighting their research achievements. This includes oversight and guidance of 9 multidisciplinary research centers and 9 core facilities.
Markey Cancer Center (MCC) & Markey Cancer Center Clinical Research Office (MCC CRO)

All research activities within the College of Dentistry are organized as a cohesive and collaborative enterprise under the charge of the UK Center for Oral Health Research (COHR). Clinical Research Support Office (CRSO)
Optimizes clinical research operations and reduces administrative burden by administering OnCore CTMS; leading billing review and coverage analysis; and overseeing eReg, eSource, and EDC.

When preparing or conducting clinical trials; billing review, coverage analysis, budget or regulatory startup support. When utilizing research systems like CTMS, eReg, eSource, and EDC.

Industry‑sponsored trials, investigator‑initiated clinical trials, multisite trials, regulated studies (drug/device).
Research Financial Services (RFS)
Manages financial reporting and compliance for sponsored projects.
When researchers use them
After an award is activated; during spending, audits, financial reporting, and compliance monitoring.

Any funded research (clinical, bench, translational), center grants, federal awards.
Sponsored Project Services (CGS, OSPA, PDO)
Sponsored Project Services is comprised of experts from our Collaborative Grant Services (CGS), Office of Sponsored Projects Administration (OSPA) and Proposal Development Office (PDO).
The goal is to provide efficient, consistent and effective award services – from proposal development, proposal and budget drafting, proposal submission, award activation and project closeout – to enable principal investigators (PIs) to focus on research goals.
CGS: Provides pre‑ and post‑award grant administration support

When applying for external funding, preparing budgets, submitting proposals, routing IAF/PIF forms, coordinating subawards.

Externally funded studies, investigator‑initiated grant proposals, multi‑institutional research applications.
OSPA: Administers grants, contracts, and regulatory requirements.

When submitting proposals requiring institutional approval; negotiating CTAs, DUAs, MTAs; activating funded awards.

PDO: A research support unit focused on the pre-award stage of extramural funding and pursuit of prestigious honors
Office of Research Integrity
Ensures ethical conduct and compliance in research.
The ORI oversees the Human Research/ Institutional Review Board (IRB), Responsible Conduct of Research & Scholarly Activity (RCR) and Research Misconduct.
When researchers use them
When conducting human subjects research, submitting to the IRB, addressing ethical concerns, completing RCR requirements, or navigating misconduct policies.

Human subjects studies, compliance‑sensitive research, data ownership or misconduct‑related projects.
Technology Commercialization
The office supports the university's strategic plan by committing to helping build Kentucky's innovation ecosystem and collaborating with industry partners worldwide, working cooperatively with innovators to strategically assess, protect, and license early-stage technologies and cultivating entrepreneurship and co-creating new technology startups
