Two University of Kentucky faculty will be featured in an upcoming episode of “Your Fantastic Mind,” an Emmy-nominated television series featuring compelling stories on brain-related health and wellness.

Shapiro’s master’s degree thesis was on baseball batting mechanics. Later, during his doctoral dissertation at the University of Illinois, he developed methodology to perform 3D analysis of movement which he applied to baseball batting. 

Chris Crawford, a professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy, is the co-leader of a team that just precisely measured the weak interaction between protons and neutrons, also known as the weak force — one of four fundamental forces in nature.

Recently published in PLOS One, the study used Kentucky Cancer Registry patient data from 2007-2011 to identify trends in epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation testing and the usage of the EGFR inhibitor, erlotinib.

The award recognizes her work on the Jewish Kentucky Oral History Project and the building of Jewish Kentucky-related holdings within the University of Kentucky Libraries Special Collections Research Center.

In 2018, Vanderford was also named a recipient of the SRAI Mid-Career Level Excellence Award. Vanderford also serves as assistant director for research at the UK Markey Cancer Center, where he oversees a special oncology training program for Appalachian students, ACTION.

The University of Kentucky Society of Postdoctoral Scholars (SOPS) hosted their first Research Pitch Competition where 19 postdocs and fellows showcased their research with one-minute elevator pitches.

AAAS fellows serve yearlong assignments in the federal government. Larian will be placed at the Center for Nutrition in the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Bureau of Resilience and Food Security in Washington D.C.
