UK's newly funded COBRE Center for Cancer and Metabolism (CCM), led by Dr. Daret St. Clair in the Department of Toxicology and Cancer Biology, is seeking applicants for a new research project. 

Project leader criteria and other information

1. Potential COBRE project leaders should be junior faculty members from UK, or being currently recruited by UK, who do not have and have not previously had an external, peer-reviewed research project grant or program project grant from either a federal or non-federal source that names them as the PD/PI.
2. COBRE project leaders must have six months of available effort for the first year of their COBRE appointment. Their level of effort may be negotiable for subsequent years. 
3. Proposed research projects should align with the major thematic goal of the CCM, which is to investigate the intersection of metabolism and cancer. Proposed research projects will also need to demonstrate usage of the CCM core facilities in Metabolomics and Imaging.  
4. Each potential project leader will be paired with three COBRE scientific advisors (two basic researchers and one clinician mentor), who are established investigators in independent research laboratories. 
5. Project leaders can initially be supported by the COBRE for two years, with the potential for a third year of funding upon review of progress. If chosen as a COBRE-funded project, the research project leader will be expected to submit an investigator-initiated research project grant application by the end of two years of COBRE support. 

Process for nominating a project leader

1. Interested and qualified potential project leaders should submit 1) a current NIH-style biosketch and 2) a specific aims page for their research project to J. Bybee (jennifer.bybee@uky.edu) by July 11^th.  
2. CCM leadership will review applicants, and three will be selected to give a 20-minute presentation on their research to CCM leaders, mentors, projects leaders, and core leaders. 
3. Two applicants will then be asked to develop a full proposal (budget and specific aims + research strategy) for evaluation by CCM external advisors, and one of those two will be selected for appointment to the COBRE grant.
