Updated USDA Research Priorities, Terms and Conditions

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has released two programmatic updates on the agency’s research priorities and on the terms and conditions for agency-funded grants.

NIH’s Implementation of Common Forms for Due Dates on or after January 25, 2026

To support strong collaboration between federal research agencies, the NIH is adopting the Common Forms for Biographical Sketch and Current and Pending (Other) Support. An NIH notice, issued Dec. 2, 2025, provides details for the Common Forms, NIH Biographical Sketch Supplement and instructions required for application due dates and Research Performance Progress Report (RPPR) submissions on or after January 25, 2026.

Research Security Training Requirements for NIH

Dec. 2, 2025, NIH put out a notice on NIH implementation of the Research Security Training (RST) requirements outlined in the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022. Each covered individual listed on an NIH grant application must certify that they have completed RST within 12 months of the date of application submission.

2025 Federal Government Shutdown

At midnight on Oct. 1, 2025, the federal government partially shut down. Resources and FAQs on the impact of the partial federal government shutdown to research will be updated as they become available.

Preview of NIH Common Forms for Biographical Sketch and Current and Pending (Other) Support Coming Soon to SciENcv

NIH plans to launch preview versions of the NIH Common Forms within Science Experts Network Curriculum Vitae (SciENcv). Users should be able to access these preview versions of the Biographical Sketch and Current and Pending (Other) Support Common Forms and the NIH Biographical Sketch Supplement (along with the corresponding instructions) on or before September 15, 2025.

No-Cost Extension Functionality Within eRA Commons Re-Enabled

NIH has re-enabled the No-Cost Extension functionality within eRA Commons. Recipients may resume initiating first no-cost extensions in eRA Commons, in accordance with the NIH Grants Policy Statement, Section 8.1.1.3. Requests that were previously submitted via the prior approval module will not be reviewed, and recipients will need to initiate the first no cost extension within the Status module by using the Extension action.

NIH Will Stop Posting Notices of Funding Opportunities in the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts in FY2026

NIH will no longer post notices of funding opportunities (NOFOs) in the NIH Guide. The NIH Guide will continue to be used for policy and informational notices.
