Markey Cancer Center Research Day Returns May 13, abstracts due March 31
For the 15th year, Markey Cancer Center Research Day will showcase the innovative cancer research taking place across all disciplines at the University of Kentucky. Registration is now open for the May 13 event, which will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Gatton Student Center. Research abstracts must be submitted by March 31.
The UK Markey Cancer Center’s annual event provides a platform for the UK research community to share their work and collaborate with others, and features poster presentations, oral presentations, and two prestigious memorial lectures.
The Gilbert H. Friedell Memorial Lecture will be delivered by Monica L. Baskin, Ph.D., deputy director of research at Massey Comprehensive Cancer Center and professor and associate dean for cancer innovation at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine. Robert H. Vonderheide, M.D., D.Phil., director of the Abramson Cancer Center at the University of Pennsylvania, will present the Susan B. Lester Memorial Lecture.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the top posters across various categories including basic science, clinical, translational and population-based research. Judges will also select abstracts to be featured during the morning oral presentations from graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and junior faculty members.
The day will also include faculty presentations from UK College of Medicine researchers Jin-Ming Yang, M.D., Ph.D., professor in the Department of Toxicology and Cancer Biology, and Laurie McLouth, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Department of Behavioral Science.
The Markey Women Strong Awards will also be presented by the Markey Cancer Foundation during the event. More information, including a schedule and links to registration and abstract submission can be found here.
