Ronald Bruntz to lead Mass Spectrometry Core
We are pleased to announce that Ronald C. Bruntz, Ph.D., has been appointed Director of the Mass Spectrometry Core, one of the shared-use research facilities supported by the Office of the Vice President for Research, effective July 1, 2026.
Dr. Bruntz earned his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from Vanderbilt University and dual undergraduate degrees in Biology and Chemistry from the University of Kentucky. He is a faculty member in the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biochemistry in the UK College of Medicine, where he currently directs the department’s mass spectrometry facility and collaborates with investigators across multiple departments to address complex analytical challenges. Throughout his career, Dr. Bruntz has applied mass spectrometry to investigate metabolic alterations associated with cancer and neurodegenerative disease.
Under Dr. Bruntz’s leadership, the Mass Spectrometry Core will continue to support the university’s strong proteomics community while expanding capabilities in metabolomics, lipidomics and other small molecule analyses. These services will provide investigators with access to a broader range of analytical approaches to support innovative research across multiple disciplines. The core will also add a new Lead Proteomics Scientist position that will report to Dr. Bruntz.
