UK to host 1st environmental career fair connecting students and employment

The University of Kentucky will host the inaugural Careers in the Environment (CITE) Career Fair 1-4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the Healthy Kentucky Research Building.
Designed for students across all majors, the CITE Career Fair will provide opportunities to explore potential career paths across various environmental work sectors and build professional networks to support a successful transition into the workforce.
The event is a collaborative effort between the Tracy Farmer Institute for Sustainability and the Environment (TFISE), Natural Resources and Environmental Science (NRES) and Forestry in the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food and Environment (CAFE) and Environmental and Sustainability Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences.
“The Tracy Farmer Institute for Sustainability and the Environment is the perfect home for the CITE career fair and student showcase, which brings together the research, teaching and workforce development missions of the university,” said Lauren Cagle, Ph.D., TFISE director. “As a university-wide research institute, we’re able to partner with colleges, departments and programs across the campus to bring this great event to life.”
The CITE Career Fair will feature up to 25 employers representing fields including natural resources, sustainability and environmental policy. Employers will share information for current and graduating students about internships, part-time roles and full-time positions, offering attendees the chance to explore a variety of career paths.
“Last fall in my upper-level writing and communication class for the NRES program, I saw an opportunity to embed professional networking at our student showcase event,” said Hannah Angel, Ph.D., NRES director of undergraduate studies. “The positive response from students and professionals encouraged me to collaborate with Lauren Cagle and Laura Robinson, academic coordinator in the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources, to broaden the experience. What began as a shared vision to connect students with employment opportunities has culminated in UK’s first-ever environmental career fair.”
Employers and organizations interested in participating are encouraged to register early, as space is limited. Undergraduate and graduate students from all programs are welcome and should register in advance.
