Sarah Heymsfeld

Sarah Heymsfeld is a fifth-year graduate student pursuing a PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience. She is from Vienna, Virginia, and received her B.S. in Psychology with minors in Biology, Data Analytics, and Criminal Justice at James Madison University. At UK, she works on an NIH-funded clinical trial examining individual differences in the decision to drink and drive with a focus on drivers’ risk awareness and simulated risky driving behavior. Further, her study implements a mindfulness-based approach to increase drivers’ awareness of alcohol-induced interoceptive cues. In turn, this may increase how intoxicated they perceive themselves to be, reduce their perceived fitness to drive, and reduce risk-taking behavior.
