NIH Loan Repayment Program: Key Steps and Deadlines

The NIH Loan Repayment Program (LRP) helps eligible researchers repay educational debt in exchange for a research commitment. Here’s how to apply: 

1. Kick off the internal process: Submit a PIF with the project title “NIH Loan Repayment Program” and instructions will follow. 
2. Confirm your eRA Commons affiliation: Make sure your eRA Commons ID is affiliated with UK. If you don’t have an ID, contact CGS to request one. 
3. Prepare your application in ASSIST: Review eligibility criteria and program details on the NIH LRP website and select JILL_THOMAS as the UK Business Official. 
4. Complete the UK internal application: Obtain the digital signature of your Department Chair or Center Director.  
5. Submit to CGS: Email the signed application to collaborativegrantservices@uky.edu. CGS will review it and verify your salary in ASSIST. 
6. Final submission: You are responsible for submitting your application in ASSIST by the NIH deadline of Nov. 19. 
7. Salary certification: If you are awarded, CGS will certify your salary as Institutional Business Official.
