Associate professor Marcelo Guzman, along with graduate student Sohel Rana, say that molecules released from forest fires can become more water soluble, and likely toxic, over the two weeks that smoke is transported through the atmosphere.

To help producers and their families better deal with stressful events, researchers in the UK’s College of Agriculture, Food and Environment and College of Nursing have joined other scientists from across the South to develop resources to help producers combat stress.

UK Martin School of Public Policy and Administration longtime faculty members Merl Hackbart and David Wildasin recently received national recognition for lifetime achievement in their respective fields.

The Kentucky Geological Survey at the University of Kentucky is hosting its 21st annual open house in celebration of Earth Science Week, Oct. 11–17. Because of the coronavirus pandemic, this year’s event will be virtual. 

“We were pleased at the quality of the proposals we received but two proposals stood out that had strong methodology, existing expertise and potential to grow into larger research projects that were ultimately selected for funding,” said Diane Follingstad, director of CRVAW.

In August, Stevens-Watkins was appointed UK’s Assistant Vice President for Research in Diversity and Inclusion after President Eli Capilouto announced a five-year, $10 million commitment to sponsor UK research focused on racial disparities and inequity.

Totaling more than $429 million, the University of Kentucky saw a record-breaking year of research funding for the 2019-20 academic year, a 3% increase from the previous year. UK also continues to climb in national research rankings.

Brewington will study magnetic field design for the Los Alamos National Laboratory neutron electric dipole moment experiment, or LANL-nEDM. Gervais will work with both the Nab Experiment and nEDM collaboration at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee.

"Lake Tanganyika’s fish are a critically important resource for impoverished people from four nations (Tanzania, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Burundi and Zambia) and resilience to environmental change in that region is quite low,” McGlue said.

UK's Office of Technology Commercialization (OTC), on behalf of UK Research Foundation (UKRF), was awarded a three-year $600,000 grant from the Economic Development Administration (EDA) Build to Scale Program, one of 52 projects funded from 36 states.
