The John P. Wyatt, M.D. Environment & Health Symposium honors the legacy of its namesake, a pathologist who, over 50 years ago, connected air pollution with lung disease. The 2021 Symposium is April 22 from noon to 3 p.m EDT.

The Research Scholars Program is aligned with national priorities for research diversity, with the goal of creating cultures of inclusive excellence.

The museum, located in the Anthropology Research Building, houses a world-renowned collection from more than 250 properties listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The grant will be used to improve environmental conditions of the 10,000-square-foot collections storage area.

The Summer HealthCare Experience (SHE) in Oncology program, is aimed at empowering high school girls throughout Kentucky to learn more about the field of cancer medicine and research. The inaugural program will be held July 12-23 and will be virtual due to the ongoing pandemic.

Kentucky is the only state currently growing substantial quantities of Artemisia annua, meaning the Commonwealth could become a new epicenter for growing the plant worldwide. The plant’s growth could potentially give Kentucky’s farmers a new cash crop to supplement income. 

This year's Goldwater Scholars were selected from a field of 1,256 math, science and engineering students who were nominated by the faculties of 438 of the nation's colleges and universities. The program fosters and encourages outstanding students pursuing careers in mathematics, the natural sciences and engineering.

Mohr-Schroeder is a professor of STEM Education and Associate Dean for Clinical Preparation and Partnerships at the University of Kentucky College of Education. Her term as President will begin in 2022.

Goldstein also is co-director of the Kentucky Neuroscience Institute, co-director of the UK Neuroscience Research Priority Area and interim director of the UK-Norton Healthcare Stroke Care Network. Goldstein’s two-year term on the board of directors begins later this month.

Katherine Thompson, a UK faculty member in the Department of Statistics and UK HealthCare patient, is thankful to UK HealthCare for saving her life after a diagnosis of infective endocarditis earlier this year.

Racism has long defined health and well-being in our state and the country. Recent events have exacerbated a complex ecosystem framing health inequities nationally. UK College of Public Health organized a yearlong program of events with the goal of promoting an anti-racist environment in our academic community.
