Climate Change Quilting Project: Lecture

To help raise awareness for climate action across the United States, the Lewis Honors College, the Tracy Farmer Institute for Sustainability and the Environment, and the Student Sustainability Council are sponsoring the Climate Change Quilt project Feb. 17. The University of Kentucky community is invited to participate.   

Lecture: Imagining Infinite Energy: The Ethics of Fossil-Fuel & Renewable Energy

Although energy is abundant in nature only a very small amount of it is harnessed to power human societies. The availability of this energy has had enormous impact on culture and politics. But if we imagine accessing the infinite energy provided by the sun or clean fusion power, it becomes clear that a just transition from fossil-fuel to renewable energy cannot focus on availability and access alone. Lithium mining for batteries, land grabs for solar and wind fields, transition justice for coal communities, and the growth of data centers are all serious ethical challenges to overcome.

University of Kentucky Sustainability Showcase

The UK Sustainability Showcase will be held on October 15, 2025 at 5:30 pm in UK's Healthy Kentucky Research Building (HKRB) Atrium.   The event will highlight several aspects of our collective efforts to advance sustainability, including:

Campus Keynote: Vincent Stanley - Director of Philosophy At Patagonia

Vincent Stanley, co-author with Yvon Chouinard of The Future of the Responsible Company, has been with Patagonia on and off since its beginning in 1973, for many of those years in key roles as head of sales or marketing. More informally, he is Patagonia’s long-time chief storyteller. Vincent helped develop the Footprint Chronicles, the company’s interactive website that outlines the social and environmental impact of its products; the Common Threads Partnership (precursor of Worn Wear); and Patagonia Books.

Careers in the Environment: Career Fair

Careers in the Environment is a career fair serving students seeking opportunities in natural resources, sustainability, environmental policy, and more.   Students can register on Handshake. We anticipate 20-25 employers with opportunities ranging from internships to full-time post-graduate positions.

April 20, 2023, 9:00 am - 2 pm Rosenberg College of Law Grand Courtroom In-Person or Online (via Zoom) The John P. Wyatt, M.D. Environment & Health Symposium honors the legacy of Dr. John P. Wyatt and his pioneering environmental clinical research on air pollution and lung pathology. Universities and agencies from across the state have partnered to present research and practice on environment and its impacts on health with specific emphasis on Kentucky.
