NIH’s Implementation of Common Forms for Due Dates on or after January 25, 2026

To support strong collaboration between federal research agencies, the NIH is adopting the Common Forms for Biographical Sketch and Current and Pending (Other) Support. An NIH notice, issued Dec. 2, 2025, provides details for the Common Forms, NIH Biographical Sketch Supplement and instructions required for application due dates and Research Performance Progress Report (RPPR) submissions on or after January 25, 2026.

Research Security Training Requirements for NIH

Dec. 2, 2025, NIH put out a notice on NIH implementation of the Research Security Training (RST) requirements outlined in the CHIPS and Science Act of 2022. Each covered individual listed on an NIH grant application must certify that they have completed RST within 12 months of the date of application submission.

2025 Federal Government Shutdown

At midnight on Oct. 1, 2025, the federal government partially shut down. Resources and FAQs on the impact of the partial federal government shutdown to research will be updated as they become available.

SciENcv Training Available

Use of SciENcv is required for Other Support requests received October 1, 2025, or later, including proposals, just-in-time requests and progress reports (i.e., NIH RPPRs).

NIH Will Stop Posting Notices of Funding Opportunities in the NIH Guide for Grants and Contracts in FY2026

NIH will no longer post notices of funding opportunities (NOFOs) in the NIH Guide. The NIH Guide will continue to be used for policy and informational notices.

Update on NIH No-Cost Extension Process

If you submitted a request to NIH since May 2025 for a No-Cost Extension via the Prior Approval mechanism in eRA Commons, please reach out to the CGS Grant Specialist who assisted you as soon as possible.

Rescission of NIH Civil Rights Term and Condition of Award

On 6.12.25 NIH rescinded the 4.12.25 “Notice of Civil Rights Term and Condition of Award.”

Notice of Early Expiration of Notices of Funding Opportunities

NIH is expiring a list of Notices of Funding Opportunities (NOFOs) at the end of the current application cycle (May 24, 2025).
